About Burke Rehabilitation Hospital
Burke provides inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy for patients who have had a life changing illness, injury or surgery.
Burke Rehabilitation Center is comprised of three divisions; Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, Burke Medical Research Institute, and Burke Outpatient Division. The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, founded in April 1915, is the only provider of dedicated rehabilitation services in Westchester County. The Winifred Masterson Burke Relief Foundation, as Burke was originally known, was established in 1915 by the philanthropist John Masterson Burke as a tribute to his mother. Its original purpose was to provide “country convalescence” for ill or disabled persons who could not afford the therapeutic care they needed before returning to active, productive lives. By 1951, the institution’s focus had changed to multi-disciplinary medical rehabilitation and its name was changed to The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Over the years, the services offered at Burke have become increasingly specialized while the gracious setting and concern for each patient’s well-being have remained essentially unchanged. The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital specializes in treating physical disabilities including stroke, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders, cardiac disease, chronic pulmonary disease, arthritis, orthopedics and amputation.
