Most large and medium-sized corporations have a commitment to increase their purchasing from the diverse business community and have established Supplier Diversity programs. Knowing what they are and how they work can be a real boost to a MWVBE.
Most larger organizations, corporations, hospitals, and defense and government contractors - even some U.S. government entities like the United States Postal Service, have Supplier Diversity programs.
These programs serve as internal advocates for you, the diverse supplier. They are there to help you win contracts and get purchase orders, but you have to let them know about your business.
You provide the detail about your business through a registration in their diversity supplier database.
Why register? It gets your business name, capabilities and detailed information about your business in front of the actual buyers inside the company. The buyer contacts are often private information and aren't on any mailing list. And one single registration can mean many company insiders look to purchase from your business.
Registration doesn't replace building a relationship with the buyers and consumers of your company's products and services. But it is a necessary part of doing business with these companies and organizations.
