Purpose and Missio. NC Housing Coalitions purpose is to educate the public about housing issues facing low and moderate-income households and to lead an advocacy effort that empowers residents to impact housing needs and issues that affect their lives and those across the state. The coalitions mission is to lead a movement to ensure that every North Carolinian has a home in which to live with dignity and opportunity. History. In 1988, a group of advocates seeking to bring together those interested in best practices and improving public policy-making formed the NC Low Income Housing Coalition. These advocates first convened in 1987 in response to diminishing federal funds and the increasing housing needs of the state's low- and moderate-income residents. They lobbied for the creation of the . The Trust Fund was initially capitalized with $21 million from the NC Housing Trust and Oil Overcharge Act, but has yet to secure a dedicated source of ongoing revenue. The Fund is still in existence today and remains a cornerstone to North Carolina's affordable housing financing options and the Coalition's advocacy priorities.
