Jonathan S. Dillon opened his first J.S. Dillon Cash Food Market in Hutchinson, Kansas, 1913. Raymond, John’s son, expanded it with additional stores in the Wichita market. By 1968, it had grew into Dillon Companies, Inc., and began acquiring regional banners. In 1983, Dillon Companies, Inc., was acquired by The Kroger Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, creating a nationwide grocery chain. Several years later, David Dillon, the great grandson of J. S. Dillon, was named Kroger's President and COO and became CEO in 2003. Operating different kinds of grocery stores throughout Kansas with major influences in the Wichita metropolitan area and Topeka, Dillons is now a grocery supermarket chain based in Hutchinson, Kansas. As a part of Kroger, Dillons plays an important role in feeding the hungry, supporting breast cancer awareness, assisting local schools and community organizations, and supporting the members of armed forces and their families.
