Writing Tutor - Chicago Campus

Adler University is hiring a part-time contract writing tutor to work with students on individual assignments and during the dissertation and thesis process to refine their writing, improve their self-expression, and enable them to effectively communicate their ideas and research.

This tutor will meet with Chicago students in person and with students from all three of our campuses (Chicago, Vancouver, and Online) over the phone and using Skype. All meetings will be by appointment and the format of the appointment (in person or online) will be at the mutual agreement of the students and the tutor. The tutor will maintain their own calendar using the
University’s online booking tool and students will use this tool to request appointments.

Experience, education, and qualifications:

  • A minimum of an M.A. degree in English, Ph.D. preferred
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and tutoring writing in a higher education setting,
    specifically to graduate students.
  • Experience and understanding of the dissertation process, either through your own graduate work or through teaching and tutoring other students during the dissertation process.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to respond promptly to student
    requests; detail-oriented

This position will report to the Senior Director, Library and Learning Services.

Hours, schedule, hourly compensation:
The contract will cover up to 15 hours per week of writing tutoring starting with the Fall 2019 semester. This will include synchronous and asynchronous assistance, and both face-to-face and online meetings. The position start date is August 26, 2019.

The schedule will be based on meeting times requested by Adler students within a calendar of availability mutually agreed upon by the tutor and the Senior Director, Library and Learning Services. The hourly rate of pay is $23 per hour.
