We are seeking a Temp-Mechanical Engineer for a very important client.

Job Description:
This is an exciting and unique company which provides robotics, structures, mechanisms, and system engineering services for spacecraft and instruments. Uniquely equipped to provide a full range of design and manufacturing services, the Company performs end-to-end product development from conception through delivery.

The Company's most notable products to date are the robotic arms currently providing critical functionality on the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Mars Science Laboratory's 'Curiosity' Rover and the Mars Exploration Rover 'Opportunity'.

The Pasadena branch of the company has provided every planetary robotic arm sent to Mars.

Composite, metallic and damped structures have also been delivered for numerous flight programs.

Services include design, analysis, fabrication, assembly and test of products for space and other demanding applications.

Key competencies include mechanical and electromechanical design, dynamic and stress analysis, machining, precision assembly, and test engineering.

Job Summary:
The companys US Systems, LLC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer that will be responsible for designing complex mechanisms for use in a space environment. These mechanisms will typically be part of a larger spacecraft that crosses many scientific/engineering disciplines.

The candidate must be comfortable working in these integrated teams. The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: Duties and

Responsibilities:
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements
  • Ability to take SOW specifications from clean sheet design through to test
  • Strong working design background with: o bearing fits and stress o lubrication and life issues o actuator design and gear motors o release devices, launch locks and caging systems
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
  • Prepare and present internal and external design reviews including PDR/CDR with Management and customers.
  • Perform material selection with regard to design requirements and material compatibility.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical design documentation including 3D models, drawings, drawing trees, bill of materials, analysis reports, etc. using standard software tools and methods.
  • Must be competent with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Develop test plans in support of environmental testing such as TVAC and Vibe.
  • Review and approve design, manufacturing, test, supplier and other program documents.
  • Support marketing and proposal pursuits, as required. Requirements: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, modified or changed at any time at the Company's discretion. Changes may be made formally, informally either verbally or in writing.
Requirement:
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 8 years of experience in an engineering position with design and analysis of mechanisms
  • Proficient with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing Desired Characteristics
  • 6 years experience in an engineering position with design and analysis of mechanisms
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5 years experience Solidworks and Solidworks Simulation or UG NX
Work Environment: Office environment

Physical Requirements:
Able to work at desk using computer 70% of the time Able to review, process, retrieve and file paperwork (may include lifting up to 35 lbs)

Work Schedule: 9/80 work week (9hr days with every-other Friday off); some overtime and travel may be required.
