Pet Care Specialist [Dog Kennel Tech]

Bed Bath n' Bonz is seeking a highly self-motivated Pet Care Specialist (Kennel Tech) to grow with our company.

Pet Care Specialists have a genuine kindness, love and natural respect for animals.

This is NOT a job where you just play with puppies all day. Responsibilities include proper handling, feeding, medicating, and care of animals while maintaining safety for animals and staff, consistent and attention to detail while cleaning and sanitizing each room daily and maintain safe environment. Weekly bathing shifts are also a part of this position.

The fun begins once all the hard work is done with social interaction play times with dogs and cats.


-Read, comprehend and follow feeding instructions per their specific schedules and special instructions.

-Responsible for properly administering medication to pets per owners and vets’ requirements *Extremely important as many dogs are on life saving medication

-Document food intake to monitor eating habits using feeding reports in Gingr

-Housekeeping duties performed in accordance with guidelines and protocols for safety with chemicals

- Cleaning a vital responsibility and must be done all throughout the day, organize and sanitize the guests room daily, including but not limited to: Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors, scrubbing walls, wiping down counters, cleaning drains, trash disposal, laundry, pet waste disposal. Maintain the highest standard of cleanliness with attention to detail

- Be comfortable handling all breeds, sizes and temperament of dogs and cats (sometimes birds, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles and other small animals) without being afraid of them and without allowing them to control you.

- Observe behavior of dogs to ensure good play skills and calming signals are being used. Maintain even-tempered and friendly dog play yard atmosphere. Engage in activity with each dog and encourage appropriate behavior during playtimes.

- Give home-like atmosphere for all guests ensuring their health, happiness and well-being by providing comfort, love, attention and daily

- Become Pet CPR and First Aid trained by our own Certified Pet Tech Instructor

- Bathing dogs include proper use of shampoo and conditioner, brush out and blow dry, express anal glands, clean ears and trim/Dremel nails. Keep the grooming salon and bathing area clean from dog hair and water, keep fans/dryers clean and free of dog hair, washing towels, sanitizing kennels/dryers/bathing tubs. Time management to get each dog properly bathed and dried by the owners’ specific pick up time. Must be able to be exposed to hot, humid areas, water, soaps, blowing dog hair and standing for extended periods of time.


- MUST be able to work most every weekend and ALL holidays. Shifts vary.

- Leadership skills

- Minimum of 1-year Kennel Management experience at Pet Boarding Hotel/Resort or Vet Office, strongly preferred

- Kennel Tech experience at Pet Boarding Hotel/Resort or Vet office, strongly preferred

- Professional Dog Bathing experience at Pet Boarding Hotel/Resort, Vet Office or Grooming Salon, strong preferred

- Professional behavior and appearance

- Continuing Pet Care Education on dog behavior and appropriate group play settings

- Open flexibility to work most weekends and holidays

- Pay is based on management/years of experience in the pet care industry

- Must be able to pass background check and drug test

- Excellent customer service skills and take initiative

-Remain calm in a high stress environment

-Able to multi-task

-Keep emotions balanced, as dogs feed off your energy


Assisting and Caring for Others —Providing personal assistance to co-worker or customers and personal care to pets at our facility

Inspecting Equipment, Structures or Material —Inspecting equipment or materials to identify any areas that are in need of repairs and communicating those possible repairs needed to your manager for required action.

Performing General Physical Activities —Performing physical activities such as holding high-pressure washer cleaning equipment, maintain balance in active dog play yards (dogs range from 2lbs to over 100lbs), walking and standing for hours at a time, stooping to clean kennel floors, lifting heavy equipment when cleaning and handle up to 50lb bag of dog food. Perform job duties indoors and outdoors during all weather conditions –heat, cold, snow, rain and humidity

Safety Sensitivity, Identifying and Solving Problems —The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Analyze and assess dog play groups identifying potential dog situations by categorizing, anticipating, recognizing differences or similarities and detecting safety changes in dog play group dynamics. Use your safety dog training (provided by Bed Bath N Bonz Kennel Manager, The Dog gurus and Fetch Find) to prevent or diffuse dog arousal which can lead to aggression.

Continuing Education -Essential to the success of our teams learning and knowledge of canine behavior and successful group plays

Learn and utilize our most innovative software program, Gingr to correctly administer medications, complete feeding reports, send Pawgress reports to clients about their pets stay, provide daily playtimes and so much more!

Self-Motivated/Willingness to Learn/Initiative —A willingness to take on responsibilities, challenges and eager to attend training seminars and continuing education programs to learn more about safety and care of animals as well as participate in webinars and workshops about being a productive and effective team member

Salary: $8.00 to $11.00 /hour
