We are seeking an Associate Scientist to join Biogen’s Biologics Drug Discovery Team, and contribute to our mission to design, optimize, and develop therapeutics to improve the lives of patients with neurodegenerative disease. In this role, you will contribute to a cross-functional effort to identify and validate novel methods for enhancing delivery of therapeutic candidates to the central nervous system (CNS).

In this role, you will contribute to a cross-functional effort to identify and validate novel methods for enhancing delivery of therapeutic candidates to the central nervous system (CNS).
1. Performing in vitro assays to assess CNS delivery/ targeting properties of various modalities such as therapeutic proteins, antisense oligonucleotides, viral vectors, and others.
2. Assisting in in vivo PK/PD rodent studies by doing transcardial perfusions and tissue extractions.
3. Tissue lysate preparation and conc measurement of various modalities using Elisa and MSD-based methods.

Qualifications

Experience in in vivo animal handling, including cardiac perfusions, tissue extraction and dissection (brain, spinal cord and other tissues). Previous experience in handling and working with biologics is required. Ability to establish in vitro assays such as cellular binding using Elisa/MSD and FACS is required. Familiarity with immunohistochemistry is preferred. Knowledge in blood-brain barrier (BBB) field and CNS delivery technologies including, receptor-mediated transcytosis, and viral-delivery (e.g. AAV) technologies is preferred. Ability to work independently as well as with cross functional teams is required.

Education

BS or MS in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology, neuroscience/neuropathology or a related field. At least 5 years of relevant experience. Industry experience is preferred.
