Programmer Analyst

Capital University's Information Technology department is seeking to fill the Programmer Analyst position. This position will report to the Director of Information Services and will perform duties involved in supporting end-user request for new programs or reports, developing, documenting, and testing those programs or reports and then supporting them.

Primary roles and responsibilities:
  • Provide programming support for the administrative offices in their effort to collect, maintain, and disseminate institutional data using a variety of programming tools, report tools, utilities, and delivery platforms such as web and client/server desktop interfaces.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement new or enhance software programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain plans outlining steps and timetables for developing programs and reports.
  • Consult with end-users to gather information about programming and reporting needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.
  • Understand application of business rules and requirements to the degree necessary to provide implementation, configuration or consulting services to the end users.
  • Act in a consulting capacity to other programming staff and end users regarding application capabilities, best practices, and functionality.
  • Create test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm programs or reports meet specifications.
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose application problems.
  • Provide training to end users as appropriate.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum three years of experience in structured programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • One or two years of experience with Ellucian Colleague Studio and WebAdvisor.
  • Experience with Entrinsik Informer, Business Objects, and/or other reporting tools.
  • Able to write and tune complex SQL queries and experience using T-SQL.
  • Experience with document imaging and scheduling software such as Image Now and 25Live a plus.
  • Experience with Javascript, HTML, and CSS a plus.
  • Ability to think creatively and logically, and to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine project timelines and complete projects on time.
  • Must be customer service oriented with strong written and oral communication skills, and possess the ability to convey computing concepts effectively to non-technical users.
  • Must have the ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
