It was all about major trends at value-oriented prices for young-minded fashionistas, eager to express themselves through personal style. Fast forward to today; our first store in Carlsbad, California has multiplied to over 500 stores across the U.S. & Puerto Rico, as well as thousands of phone screens through our website & app!

General Summary
The role of a Merchandiser is to drive the strategic direction and merchandise an optimal product assortment for an assigned department that our “Charlotte Girl” loves. The Merchandiser is accountable for driving positive financial results, and works closely with Merchandise Planning to understand their open-to-buy, which allows for smart buying decisions in the delivery of fast fashion. Merchandisers work collaboratively, and think conceptually and strategically about product. This results in the ability to rock their category - being ready, on-time, and on-trend.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Influences and assists in the development and execution of merchandising strategies and business objectives for assigned department that meet or exceed financial goals
  • Participates in the open-to-buy process through regular communication with Planning to review sales, inventory plans, trend analysis, and fashion direction
  • Travels to market monthly; assorts new product aligned with current trend direction
  • Oversees product approvals for assigned department
  • Negotiates IMU and increase / decrease of orders and cancellations
  • Presents assortment and product learnings in all product and financial meetings
  • Proactively identifies opportunities in the assortment for growth /decline by category based on market trends, competitive landscape, and historical performance
  • Assesses in-season business by tracking and analyzing sales information in order to identify opportunities and make recommendations to increase sales, improve margins, maximize inventories
  • In collaboration with Manager, determines the need for “exit and chase strategies” based on category performance; works with vendor to get back-in-stock
  • Understands our “Charlotte Girl” by tracking and experiencing attitude and lifestyle and selecting product that appeals to our girls taste
  • Drives the business forward through a keen awareness of fashion trends, building of a product line, and capitalizing on current sales trends
  • Supervises Merchandise Coordinator or Assistant Merchandiser, maximizing performance and fostering career development
  • Builds relationships cross-functionally with Planning, Production, Marketing, E-commerce, Visual and Trend to leverage necessary resources in support of quality partnerships and decision quality
  • Works hand-in-hand with Production to manage the fit process; balances aesthetic with quality standards and fit specifications of each product
  • Manages vendor communication to build effective partnerships in developing product and interpreting fashion trends; assess viability of domestic or import vendors
  • Assists in the development and implementation of updated reporting tools to allow for continuous improvements in assessing and planning the business
  • Works consistently to maximize opportunities and minimize risk
  • Visits stores weekly / monthly and shop competitors to understand competitive landscape, promotional strategies and customer base; build great relationships with store employees and managers
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to grow the business and further personal and professional development

Skills & Qualifications

  • College degree preferred
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in Merchandising
  • Ability to influence within immediate team and across functions
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Possess a working knowledge of financial measurements and how to impact them
  • Solution driven and focus on driving sales
  • Ability to share a point of view about product assortment and business opportunities
  • Ability to take analysis into action
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; team oriented
  • Ability to effectively negotiate with stakeholders, both internally and externally
