Description:

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) / Division of Children’s Services (DCS) Logistics Lead is responsible for the oversight of the coordination of daily unaccompanied Alien children (UAC) ages 13-17 and staff travel needs. The Logistics Lead reports to the Program Coordinator for the HHS-ORR Emergency Shelter Programs.

Duties:

The primary responsibilities of the Logistics Lead include the following:

• Oversees the coordination of daily minor and staff travel needs via ground or air methods of transportation (charter or commercial carrier).
• Coordinates and gives direction on generate flight/transportation manifests, and reports.
• Contacts airlines to obtain information on airline escort requirements.
• Books flights and completes itineraries, routing, and associated bookings (e.g., hotel, rental car) for both the transportation specialist (TS) and escorted UC.
• Coordinates with other Departments for child discharge from shelter
• Assists with the development of policies and procedures
• Works with the transportation data base and coordinates with Data Manger for reports
• Supervises the Escorts and other case aides in the department.
• Assists with resolution of ticketing and transportation issues with sponsors, minors, and staff.
• Performs duties in a safe manner.
• Follows the corporate safety policy.
• Participates and supports safety meetings, training and goals.
• Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
• Encourages co-workers to work safely.
• Identifies “close calls” and/or safety concerns to supervisory personnel.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Assists in active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA VPP, ISO, JCAHO, AAAHC, and other mandated regulations/standards.
• May serve on the OSHA VPP, Safety, and Wellness Committees.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

• Master’s in Business Administration or equivalent degree in a field related to logistics, or human services or similar occupational areas.
• Five years of documented travel/logistics experience in the travel industry.
• Clean criminal background check.
• Clean Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) or child protective services check.
• Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
• May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
• Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
• Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, extreme heat and winds).
• Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc.
• Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
• Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors throughout the entire duration of their shift period, which lasts 8 hours or more on a typical shift.
• Must be able to stand, bend, or stoop for the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
• Must be prepared and physically able to respond with appropriate protocol in a variety of dynamic supervision situations with clients of 0-17 years in age.
• In a sudden or emergency event, staff must at all times be physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, apply approved restraint techniques and otherwise manage or coerce the full weight of an infant or adolescent.
• Ability to pass a medical examination to determine one’s fitness to satisfactorily and safely care for youth if accommodations are required.
• Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of staff activities.
