Deputy Auditor

Job Summary:

This position assists the Auditor in all matters relating to the responsibilities given the Auditor by the State of Ohio. The Deputy Auditor provides assistance in the financial, personnel, and operational management of the Auditor’s office. The Deputy Auditor carries out the responsibilities of the Auditor in his/her absence according to Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 733.19. This is an appointed position in the unclassified service of the City, exempt from Civil Service per ORC 124.11(A)(9), and classified as exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.


Job Duties:

  • Evaluates policies and delivery systems to identify areas for improvement and implementing changes for those improvements.
  • Prepares and oversees reporting for annual audit conducted by or for the State of Ohio.
  • Prepares a variety of written reports, analyses, presentations, and summaries in support of the Auditor’s initiatives.
  • Researches federal, state and local statutes relating to fiscal management.
  • Records City Council budget amendments and transfers.
  • Assists in preparing annual appropriations budget.
  • Consults with Auditor and Income Tax Administrator regarding modifications of the office.
  • Assures timely and accurate payments for debt.
  • Supervises Payroll and Accounts Payable/Receivable Administrators.
  • Performs Auditor’s duties in absence of the Auditor.
  • Prepares the SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) for annual audit.
  • Executes payments to outside entities (BWC, TGT, TIF, Unemployment, etc.).
  • Prepares General Fund Cost allocation annually.
  • Reviews and posts ordinances.
  • Prepares report for County (Certificate of Resources, Amended Resources, Unappropriated Balances).
  • Assumes other responsibilities and performs other related duties as needed.

Job Specifications & Qualifications:

  • Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position.
  • Excellent written, oral organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to perform mathematical equations.
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze personnel issues and problems, and devise effective courses of action.
  • Five years’ of related supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma or equivalency with qualified experience related to the positon; Master’s degree preferred.
  • The City may consider any other equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer background check is required.
