Internal Communications Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications, this position will write and assist in developing strategy for a variety of communications designed to engage, align, inform and inspire a diverse audience, including employees and external stakeholders.

This role will act as lead writer in communications of company news and feature stories, employee recognition, executive communications, company activities and external events that align with our organization’s purpose, business strategy, culture and key initiatives.

Must be passionate about the employee experience and how internal communications is an integral part of the overall strategy grow and sustain positive engagement, morale, productivity and satisfaction.

While this position is focused mostly on internal communications, she or he will work collaboratively as part of the Marketing Communications team on external initiatives. Must also work in conjunction with Human Resources, Information Technology, Development and other functional areas, including our Service Lines providing supports for thousands of individuals with disabilities and their families.


  • Research and write regular corporate communications for video, digital and print distribution.
  • Develop measurement strategy rooted in best practices to measure effectiveness of communications, and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Create innovative ways to connect, inform, recognize and motivate employees.
  • Assist in development and implementation of a comprehensive internal communications program with specific strategies and action plans to effectively communicate and influence internal stakeholders via company intranet, executive emails, video, printed materials and more.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with key internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee large and regional events to connect and engage employees.
  • Travel to locations across Southern California to company locations to meet with employees and attend events.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, PR or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive internal communications experience.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to distill complex information into easily understandable communications for employees.
  • Ability to work with all levels in the organization and handle sensitive topics with discretion.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and completes projects on time.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs: Word, PowerPoint, etc. SharePoint and OneDrive a plus.
  • Social media experience a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure with short turnaround times.
