Marketing Communications Specialist

The Marketing Communications Specialist reports to and assists the Manager of Marketing Communications in execution of marketing strategy and development of tactical projects for Materion Advanced Materials, including: marketing content for use online and in print, advertisements, tradeshows and events, news releases, sales and training materials.


This position will be responsible for the development, design, approval, production, and distribution of creative content that meets marketing strategy and business goals for diverse B2B products, markets and applications.


The Marketing Communications Specialist will share responsibility for maintaining and overseeing the promotion and consistency of the Materion brand across all regions, platforms and tactics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Website Development / Online Maintenance

  • Strategizes with manager, the business development team and market directors to promote Advanced Materials products, services and technical expertise with target audiences; writes high-impact content to support successful multi-channel implementation of plans.
  • Works with product marketing personnel/teams to ensure web site content is current and supports marketing campaigns across a wide range of industries.
  • Assists international teams with routine web site updates, adding new resources and content as needed
  • Manages digital library and marketing assets/collateral; including CRM, departmental folders and online sites.

Campaign and Content Marketing

  • Interacts with product marketing personnel/teams to support the generation of content that aligns with market growth plans and business growth objectives.
  • Serves as a point person for content development, posting and user interaction across social media channels.
  • Ensures all work meets Company and departmental standards for quality and accuracy and adheres to established brand guidelines.

Media Relations

  • Writes emails, blog posts, product announcements and supports and generates earned editorial placements in targeted online and print trade publications.
  • Works with operating locations to provide support for local PR/Communications initiative.
  • Plans and coordinates photo/video production, including scripting, shot lists and other details for customer testimonials, product highlights and other videos that can be distributed via the website, social media, email, etc.

Tradeshow and Event Planning

  • Helps coordinate global channel partner meetings, sponsorships, events and tradesho Manages content and promotion, including customer hospitality events held in conjunction with tradeshows.
  • Assists with show selection by preparing post-show ROI report, recommending shows and forecasting show budgets.
  • Attends trade shows as needed.

Lead Management

  • Leads marketing communications efforts to optimize online content and outreach tools to generate leads and sales via the website; manages web copy process, reviewing and editing copy from marketing communications staff and vendors to ensure alignment with brand voice and visual guidelines.
  • Assists with CRM lead management, including lead entry, assignment and the preparation of lists for campaign implementation.
  • Manages Google AdWords and other lead generation campaigns, including setting and updating budget, keywords and creating new ads and landing pages.

Reporting/Metrics

  • Compiles marketing communications metrics via Sugar CRM, Google Analytics and other tools; creates reports covering performance of marketing communications events, campaigns and other initiatives, assessing performance against goals, costs per outcome; makes recommendations for future marketing communications activities. Formal reports given every 3-6 months.

Miscellaneous

  • Assists with other marketing communications activities as assigned and as needed to achieve business growth objectives.
  • Manages departmental expenses by processing invoices, managing purchases orders, wire transfers and check requests. Updates expense spreadsheets for trade shows and marketing campaigns.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent.
  • 3 years' experience in marketing communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and oral communications skills.
  • Exceptional project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in social media, email marketing and other online marketing tactics.
  • Experience with CRM programs and lead management.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, anticipate challenges and deliver solutions.
  • Works well independently and in team projects.
  • Ability/willingness to travel.
