Manager, Compensation and Benefits

Physicians Mutual is seeking an experienced Manager of Compensation and Benefits to manage the design, development, implementation, funding, communication and administration of the compensation, employee benefit programs and performance management for 1,000+ employees. In this role, you would direct activities of compensation and benefit specialists by planning, leading, organizing and establishing controls to comply with legal requirements and align with the company’s strategic plan. We are seeking an expert in the field to build fair and attractive compensation and benefits plans that help us improve employee satisfaction and drive a productive workplace.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Recommending program design
  • Explaining plan benefits, costs, trends, impact, etc. in participation with the employee benefits committee
  • Developing, monitoring and controlling corporate benefits and compensation operating budgets


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management required
  • Approximately 6 to 8 years of broad-based compensation & employee benefits experience required
  • ACA and CEBS designations preferred
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS or payroll software
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Learning Management and Performance Management Systems
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness and cost of multiple compensation and benefit programs
  • Project management and implementation skills with the ability to formulate and pursue long range plans and objectives to take ideas from conception to implementation
  • Ability to interpret and apply government legislation; recognize the effect on programs and to recommend changes ensuring legal compliance and to align with the company’s strategic mission
  • Ability to work effectively in an advisory/resource capacity with employees, officers, directors, managers, and supervisors
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and written/oral communication skills to provide recommendations, work direction, evaluate employee performance, and negotiate contracts and administrative agreements
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of regulations governing compensation and employee benefit administration
