Financial Services Specialist 5

The Economic Services Administration, Community Services Division is looking for a Financial Services Specialist 5 to join our team at the Spokane Community Services Office. In this role, you will supervise a unit of Financial Services Specialists who are responsible for gathering information regarding public assistance and determining the client's eligibility. The ideal applicant will possess skills to develop the staff they lead and be creative in helping their staff obtain job experience and knowledge while encouraging an environment of growth.

Some of what you'll do

  • Establish unit workloads and quality standards
  • Monitor staff quality and quantity of work while maintaining an ongoing dialogue
  • Controls overall flow of work processed by the unit
  • Create a supportive environment that allows staff to advance and succeed through coaching and mentoring
  • Conduct regular and productive unit and 1:1 meetings with staff
  • Conduct or arrange technical and job development training for staff
  • Provide instructions and interpretations regarding policies, procedures, or laws governing eligibility and work performance
  • Act as office liaison with other agencies and community organizations to coordinate program services
  • Attend meetings locally and across the state with possible overnight travel

  • Leadership skills with the ability to adapt to each staff person's learning and communication styles
  • Ability to create a positive work environment that supports collaboration, transparency, trust, and accountability
  • Knowledge of management principles and operating methods
  • Ability to make critical decisions based on integration of information from multiple sources that may be discrepant
  • Knowledge of federal and state public assistance rules, regulations, and processes as applied in Washington State
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Supervisory and/or managerial experience

Who should apply
