The Allocation Analyst is responsible for inventory levels in each store across assigned product classes. The Allocation Analyst must work in close partnership with the merchant, planning, and store operations teams to ensure that each store has the correct inventory level to support its product display and sales needs; at the same time, overall inventory for a given product class needs to actualize according to its turn plan, requiring the Allocation Analyst to at times balance conflicting priorities. The Allocation Analyst must develop strategies to manage assigned products throughout their life-cycle, from initial introduction to core assortment to clearance. This role requires the ability to consistently deliver business results by meeting deadlines and achieving goals.
• Analyze historical data and current store-level sales trends to identify risks and opportunities by store layout, business unit, and product class. • Develop forward-looking allocation strategies and appropriately adjust inventory levels in stores to maximize sell-through. • Provide extra support to bestselling products, fast-turning stores, and proprietary/signature products bought in large quantities to make a merchandising statement. • Effectively utilize inventory management systems to execute allocation strategies to support ongoing replenishment and seasonal assortment needs. Convey any systems shortcomings to the business analysis team for correction. • Coordinate all shipping and delivery activities with the merchandise planning team, the supply chain planning team, and store operations. • Create and distribute weekly reporting to measure the health of the store and DC inventory. Provide action steps to report recipients to move the business forward. • Work closely with the merchant and planning teams to recommend receipt flow changes, adjustments to buying strategies, and issues with stock levels at our distribution centers. • Analyze climate/weather impact, store type, and midweek sales trends; use the findings to take appropriate actions to ensure the optimal inventory level in each store, particularly for promoted products. Identify bottom performers and work with the merchants on exit strategies. • Collaborate with merchants, the promotional team, and store operations to determine appropriate product mix and display quantities. Surface any concerns before the initial allocation is complete. Be an active participant in cross-functional meetings. Communicate with store and district managers, as appropriate, to address individual store needs. • Contribute to the development of functions and algorithms to further develop the allocation process. • Complete and archive all work in alignment with the principles of Digital Asset Management established within the Merchandise Planning & Store Allocation team.
• High degree of proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Access knowledge preferred, but not required. • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills. Ability to think critically and communicate complex thoughts and/or ideas in clear and concise manner. • Ability to operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional partners. • Ability to foster a positive and motivating work environment, encouraging feedback and innovation. • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines. • Ability to adapt well to change in direction and priority in a fast- paced and deadline-oriented environment. • Must be flexible enough to identify and interpret changing trends, convert those findings into new allocation strategies, effectively communicate proposed strategy changes to cross-functional team members, and drive the business in the future. • Undertake ad hoc projects as requested and as curiosity and business requires. • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of retail math. • Bachelor’s degree required. • 1 year experience in Allocation and prior retail experience preferred.
