Responsible for implementing and maintaining the University network infrastructure. Install and repair network hardware, including cabling, UPSs, WAPs, switches and routers (Layer 1 & 2). Resolve helpdesk tickets assigned to Network Services. Provide Tier 1 network support. Work within teams to complete networking projects. Use network monitoring software to ensure network performance and availability. Perform basic switch configuration. Administer servers used by Network services. Participate in on-call rotation. Develop networking skills and stay current on new technologies and University policies.
|Minimum Education and Experience||
Associate’s degree with 3 – 5 years of experience in a related field.
Equivalent combination of relevant education, training and/or experience will be considered.
|Preferred Education and Experience||
Three years of experience with installing network infrastructure, including switches, cabling, UPS’ and WAPs.
Three years of experience assisting senior engineers, resolving trouble tickets and monitoring network health.
|Essential Duties and Responsibilities||
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the University network infrastructure.
Install and repair network hardware, including cabling, UPSs, WAPs, switches and routers (Layer 1 & 2).
Thorough understanding of network protocols and their applications and characteristic behaviors like IPv4, STP, LACP, CDP, LLDP, ARP, VLANs, MAC addresses, 802.11 WiFi and Ethernet.
Resolve helpdesk tickets assigned to Network Services.
Troubleshoot physical and optical connections, and isolate problems with network interfaces, transponders, etc.
Develop, implement, and maintain standard operational procedures and established standards.
Provide Tier 1 network support.
Use network monitoring software to ensure network performance and availability.
Perform basic switch configuration.
Administer servers used by Network services.
On-call availability for resolving network emergencies, both during regular and off-hours; Emergency on-call availability 24×7×365.
Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as network switches, computers, and peripherals.
