Under supervision, incumbent will work as part of HNRP Network Operations Helpdesk Team and will assist in providing desktop and user support for a network of 400 decentralized UNIX/MacIntosh/Linux/Windows computers. Under guidance, candidate will provide HDRA network and printer support and system support for HDRA Help Desk customers. Incumbent will be expected to have good communication and documentation skills and will work with various Macintosh models.


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Two or more years of relevant experience.

  • Experience conducting escalated, broad technical support including hardware and software tests, analyzing test results and producing reports of conclusions and recommendations. Experience with providing network security including providing patches, anti-virus software, firewalls and password protections, eliminating unnecessary services, minimizing un-encrypted authentication, no unauthenticated email relays, no uncontrolled access to proxy services, physical security.

  • Experience in use and knowledge of networking protocols such as DHCP, TCP / IP, etc.

  • Demonstrated skill in configuring, troubleshooting and supporting escalated end user client systems including desktop, laptop and mobile computing devices.

  • Broad knowledge of enterprise system functions, dependencies and interactions and ability to use this information to troubleshoot.

  • Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Working knowledge of server internals, especially as needed for troubleshooting and isolating issues.

  • Advanced skill at creating technical documentation for complex processes and applications.

  • Experience developing and administering formal technical training to users at a variety of levels. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Working knowledge of unit's business processes. Working knowledge of organization computer requirements, recommendations and policies including security standards.

  • Effective skills at technical and administrative work direction.

  • Working knowledge of desktop and business/technical support systems.

  • Knowledge and ability to provide support of various software packages including Filemaker Pro, JMP, MS Office, EndNote, Adobe CS.

  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of UNIX shell scripts, perl and applescript and command line file editing. Apache web servers, HTML, including but not limited to file ownership and permission modifications, umask, location of various setting files under OS X, Solaris, and Linux.

  • Knowledge and experience of various printer models.

  • In depth knowledge of networking and security including TCP/IP, AFP, SMB, NFS, SFTP, SCP, SSH, SSL, OSI layer model.
