Delivers safe, effective, appropriate and efficient patient care services to assigned patients. All patient care is rendered under supervision of a licensed nurse. Provides necessary administrative/support activities that contribute to the delivery of quality patient care services. Correctly and actively participates in improvement activities of the unit.
Delivers patient care based on assignments from a licensed nurse. Performs basic functions to include comfort measures linen distribution, passing ice and nourishments, offering and removing bedpans or urinals.
Assess and performs patient care procedures such as obtaining patient weight, vital signs, glucose monitoring, suctioning of trach /ET tube, I&O, dressing changes, specimen collection , and splint application. All care is at the direction of the licensed nurse or Emergency physician and or based on the plan of care and medical orders.
Observes, Interprets and appropriately reports changing patient conditions and behaviors indicating needs or problems. Answers patient call lights for all patient area.
Documents clearly and accurately on designated patient forms, including interventions performed. Assists with the clerical responsibilities, including placing orders in the computer, and retrieving information as requested.
Demonstrates competence in and understanding of treatment needs depending on the age of the patient.
Quickly and accurately responds to cardiac monitor alarms by identifying and interpreting cardiac rhythms and communicating appropriate information.. Procures rhythm strips for patients per departmental guidelines
Assesses patient movement needs and performs patient transfers to chair bed and or stretcher, observing basic safety practices and principles of body mechanics. Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed as requested to other units / departments.
Assess Supply needs and procure from appropriate source. Orders necessary supplies from storeroom at staff request. Properly delivers specimens, requisitions, etc. to other departments. Stocks unit and each patient care area with necessary supplies and emergency equipment Assures all emergency equipment is in place and operational.
CNA through the Maryland Board of Nursing
BLS -Healthcare provider Current ACLS certification preferred.
At least 1 year of progressively responsible work experience in the area of patient care, EMT, Paramedic, Military Corpsman or a closely related field, preferably in a Emergency Care environment.
Proficiency in the use of personal computer software, including Word, Excel, calendaring software and database software is required.
