This is a technical position for a highly motivated Research Associate 2 to join a developmental biology lab at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology, Interdiscilinary Stem Cell Institute. The candidate would particularly be involved in performing molecular biology and biochemical assays, managing and maintaining mutant mouse colonies, and working with mouse embryos. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about contributing to the dynamic research program and willing to assist other cross-functional teams when needed.
The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
Performing molecular biology techniques; including but not limited to cloning, bacterial transformation, DNA preps, PCR, DNA/RNA isolation from cells, mouse embryos and tissues, RT-PCR, qPCR, production of lentiviral vectors, and lentiviruses.
Performing protein analysis including western blotting and immunofluorescence.
Maintaining and managing mouse colonies.
Mouse embryo collection and dissections.
Tissue cryofixation and cryosectioning.
Maintaining lab inventories.
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or other related fields, with two years of experience working in a biotech company or academic research lab. Broad knowledge base in cell, molecular biology, and mouse genetics. Expertise in a variety of laboratory techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, including cloning, DNA/RNA isolation and analysis, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, Western Blot is required. Expertise in sterile tissue culture techniques including, transfection, transduction, working with mice, and managing mouse colonies. Ability to work independently. Strong technical skills to generate high quality and reproducible data is a must. Appropriate data analysis and maintenance of meticulous and accurate records is required. Detail oriented and with time management skills. Must be proactive, cooperative, and willing to work in a small team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient with MS Office and other commonly used software.
