Job Summary:

The Kirkwood / Heavenly Human Resources Business Partner will work collaboratively with operational managers and teams of specific lines of business in Kirkwood / Heavenly including Mountain Operations, Product Sales, Ski & Snowboard School and Mountain Dining to provide professional human resources support and strategic direction in a variety of areas including employee relations and recognition, performance management, employee development, hiring processes, employee engagement, employee housing and special projects. The Human Resources Business Partner will also assist in the development, documentation and recommendation of continuous improvement of HR processes, procedures or programs to deliver innovative solutions to meet customer's needs through business partner relationships. This position will work closely with the Kirkwood / Heavenly Leadership Team to support other lines of business including Lodging and Retail Operations.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Effectively handle employee relations issues using excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Handle/resolve extremely confidential and sensitive issues. Work with all levels of management in the organization in response to complaints and employee issues including investigation of such complaints and issues and provide guidance on necessary improvement or actions plans.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the properties and Vail Resorts policies, code of ethics, mission, vision and values. Maintain current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources. Ensure organizational compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Promote affirmative action and equal employment opportunity. Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Manage\Lead HR Staff including Employee Experience Specialist(s), Uniform Lead, Employee Center Team, and partnership with Regional Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, and Employee Relations team members. Provide oversight, leadership, and partnership with these roles.
  • Work closely with benefits, compensation, organizational development, HR technology, talent acquisition, talent management and payroll departments to assist and resolve simple and complex issues in these areas.
  • Partner with the Kirkwood / Heavenly Housing Manager to ensure budgets, space allocations, personal safety, and related employee relations issues are effectively managed.
  • Assist with Employee Recognition programs and communications of current programs and development of new programs. Support the planning, communication and implementation of the events.
  • Organize and oversee the employee shuttle system and carpool programs.
  • Manage the roll-out and improvement plans from the Employee Engagement Surveys.
  • Assist in the on-going efforts in each line of business in building deeper, more qualified bench strength.
  • Be an active participant in regional and national efforts toward greater alignment of overall HR Programs.
  • Assist in the processing and tracking of pre-employment background checks and fitness screening.
  • Work in cooperation with HR Director to develop, adhere to and forecast the Kirkwood HR budget.


  • Bachelor degree in HR or related field or equivalent experience
  • PHR/SPHR preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources practices, procedures and laws/regulations
  • Minimum 5-7 years in an HR Generalist role with 2 years high level business partner experience preferred
  • Ability to travel \ commute between two Resort locations on a regular basis.
  • Ability to closely partner with managers to obtain successful outcomes and move the business forward
  • Experience in conducting investigations required
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in decision-making
  • Minimum of 3 years high-level leadership experience
  • Strong coaching skills required
  • Ability to handle and resolve extremely confidential and sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in decision-making
  • Solid computer skills including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Previous experience with Peoplesoft, RPOS and Success Factors preferred. Must have the ability to learn new applications and programs. Report generation skills a plus.
  • Able to read, write, speak, comprehend and understand English fluently required; Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources practices, procedures and laws & regulations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills necessary to manage multiple assignments in a rapidly changing environment
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to maintain composure under pressure and a professional and positive attitude
  • Knowledge of Vail Resorts, specifically Kirkwood or Heavenly Resort is highly preferred
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays
