Vail Honeywagon, a Waste Connections company, is a waste hauling company dedicated to sustainable waste diversion strategies and community education. We have been hauling rubbish and recycling in the Vail Valley for over 40 years. In 2018 we launched Eagle County’s only Class III Commercial Compost Facility, Honeywagon Organics.

Vail Honeywagon is looking for motivated individuals to join our team to oversee compost operations and environmental compliance.
The selected individual will dedicate their time working directly with our compost operations manager to conduct daily compost operations.

Position Overview
Commitment: Full time - 40 hours per week
Compost Site Operator and Environmental Compliance Monitor
Equipment Operation

Requirements
Clean driving record
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
English language proficiency required; Spanish would be a bonus.
Organized and responsive
Able to work in physically demanding environment with harsh outdoor weather conditions throughout the year
Positive Attitude
Self-motivated

Responsibilities
Receive organic waste that enters compost facility, asses tip fees and administer receiving tickets
Asses contamination on each load, ensure receiving tickets contain contamination fees when applicable
Track and reject loads with potential for persistent herbicide contamination
Organize bulk material bunkers and notify manager when piles recede
Maintain and turn compost piles
Develop suggested recipes for specific feedstocks
Ensure compost pad stays clean and free of debris
Maintain pathways on and off pad and fire lanes around outside and middle of rows
Determine bulk material quantities based on feedstock received to create recipes for desired compost end product
Maintain labeling system for tracking piles
Screen finished compost and organize finished product in bunkers
Load finished product for compost sales
Benchmark spring compost sales and calculate how much material needs to be collected to meet demand
