The Senior Supervisor of Associate Relations and Absence is responsible for overseeing the Associate Relations and Leave of Absence Administration teams to ensure compliance with corporate policies, programs and applicable collective bargaining agreements to mitigate risk to the Company and provide for the fair and consistent treatment of associates.

Principal Duties:

  • Direct all Associate Relations activities to mitigate risk and litigation avoidance for the Company. Oversee employment law compliance and compliance to regulatory concerns. Provide useful and strategic advice and input across the Company.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to management regarding policy interpretation, federal and state regulations and recommendations for disciplinary action.
  • Provide consult, leadership and guidance for performance concerns and terminations for corporate associates.
  • Direct the efforts of associates in delivering the Conflict Resolution Process which includes consultation at all steps.
  • Oversee all leave administration and ADA compliance efforts providing consultation, recommendations and preparing documentation necessary to comply with applicable laws.
  • Create well defined metrics to measure the efficacy of the Associate Relations and Leave of Absence processes. Provide analysis on complaint information to identify opportunities for training and improvements on manager/associate interactions. Create and provide educational opportunities that assist the People Team in self-development and career advancement.
  • Maintain the utmost confidentiality in dealing with associate records and business information. Advise management regarding human resource related issues or concerns including, but not limited to, performance management, employment status, conflict resolution, sexual harassment, and fair equitable treatment of associates.
  • Create, interpret, and perform ongoing maintenance of the Company’s policies. Consult with internal legal department to ensure conformity with any applicable legal requirements. Ensure that policies and procedures are administered fairly, consistently and within legal guidelines.
  • Maintain close working relationship with Legal department on legal issues, contracts and judicial pronouncements relative to risk management; maintain relationships with outplacement vendors and consult on severance agreements.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations related to the human resource field.
  • Participate in collective bargaining agreements, union grievances, mediation proceedings and assists in solving labor disputes. Prepare a draft of proposed contract language and assembles and presents negotiated contracts.
  • Manage labor relations to ensure compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement. Handle all employment related issues with respect to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the union associates. Maintain strong business relationships with union business leaders and stewards.
  • Provide overall direction and support for team and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous working experience in a Human Resource field.
  • Prior experience in managing a team both locally and remotely.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR laws and applicable local and federal guidelines
  • Prior experience with unions and the Collective Bargaining process preferred.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite applications.
