Responsible for operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and for accurately recording results of tests within the assigned laboratory.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in the design, construction use of special test fixtures and apparatuses under supervision.
  • Performs tests and experiments under supervision.
  • Accurately records results of tests within the assigned laboratory notebook.
  • Uses computerized data acquisition and control systems
  • Assists Research Engineers and Technicians and has a significant personal contact with others in the Research Department, as well as with other Departments.
Expected Areas of Competence
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform all necessary routine lab procedures in a timely manner.
  • Ability to operate sophisticated test machines, which may include mechanical fatigue machines.
  • Detail oriented and analytical.
  • Ability to understand the reasonableness of the results.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and build relationship with other areas of the organization.
  • Ability to use a calculator and perform reliable calculations.
  • Ability to keep and record accurate and legible data.
  • Ability to work with small hand tools.
  • Ability to transport items in the 30-pound range.
  • Experience using personal computers and working knowledge of Windows.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • Must have previous experience as a lab technician – Min. 1 year.
  • Must have a general science background including basic math, algebra, chemistry and physics (depending upon laboratory assignment).
