It was in 1920, when the first Tops store was opened in Niagara Falls, New York under a different name. Ferrante Castellani was the founder and the management later moved onto his two sons. His sons later opened a market by the name Great Bear Market. Later on, as they gained more partners opened the first modern supermarket and named it Tops in the year 1962. The name was chosen, because the store is aimed at providing only the top products of top quality to the customers. In an effort to provide a location where customers can shop for anything at the same place, Tops grocery store has its outlets in many locations in Vermont, Pennsylvania and New York. In addition to having grocery stores, there are also 56 gas stations which are placed inside them. These gas stations offer a discount program to its customers through the Tops Gas Points program. The grocery stores also encompass pharmacies, nearly 79 of them in Pennsylvania and New York. Another advantage that the store provides its customers, is the $3.99 Plan Generics Program through which you can avail nearly 400 cheaper prescriptions for yourself and your pets.
